ADaM - Automated Dependency analysis Manager
Automated Dependency analysis Manager

"Operational risk" is defined as the ability to reduce and prevent disruptions to business processes. The proposed New Basel Capital Accord and other guidelines are extending the definition to technology directly i.e. to impose stringent protections for any failure in the business and technology infrastructure. The solution is ADaM.

The key benefits of deploying ADaM include, but are not limited to

- Improve rate of success of implemented changes.
- Reduce the scope and breadth of unintended failures caused by changes.
- Integrate change management with other service management processes.
- Deliver productivity enhancements.
- Reduce the cost of change.
- Establish standardized methods/procedures for prompt handling of changes.
- Assess risk and the potential impact of that risk on the business.
- Promote high visibility of changes.
- Provide open channels of effective communication for changes.
- Manage the full life cycle of each change.
- Manage the relationships among changes.
- Manage the financial implications of change.

In an ideal world "Business Approves, IT Implements"

ADaM is a business impact analysis tool that manages your companies organisational structures, processes, hardware and software in order to reduce the operational risks associated with changes by assessing and measuring the impact of change within your organisation before the event and recording your changes after the event.

ADaM assigns each component of a business infrastructure with attributes that relate to its importance in the business process and its dependencies to other entities within the infrastructure. In the case of IT infrastructure the component types are process, software, hardware and network.

ADaM maintains this 'universe of knowledge' by imposing a change control methodology over any changes to the known universe and communicating these changes to the owners potentially affected by the planned changes. By highlighting the business importance and dependency links relating to each system throughout the change process, disruptions and business risk can be both controlled and predicted.

The implementation of ADaM provides organisations with a workbench that enables the business to monitor and control system change and to produce meaningful reports which highlight technical and operational risk dependencies. These are key requirements as outlined by Sarbannes Oxley and Basel II.
